The update
What was announced
In an 8 October interview with 3Dnatives, Scrap Labs described its Scrap 1 desktop metal-printing project. This concerns engineering parts rather than general-purpose consumer filament printing.
The official product page targets a 100 × 100 × 100 mm build volume and a 200 W laser. These are manufacturer targets, not independently validated performance. The company roadmap places production launch in June 2027, initially serving the US.
The product page says reservations are not purchase contracts and that timing depends on production readiness, region and compliance. We have not added a retail offer or assumed availability in other countries.
Key details
- Desktop laser powder bed fusion for metal parts
- Manufacturer specifications remain targets
- June 2027 production target, initially US
- Reservations do not guarantee delivery
Atlas assessment
For engineering workshops, a compact metal-printing workflow could be relevant. Buyers still need independent part-quality evidence, documented powder and laser safety, and a confirmed complete operating cost. An announced prototype is not a verified alternative to machines already shipping.
